Fill Your Own Feed Bunk ~ HOMEMADE PIZZA Sticks
In a high school home ec class, we had an assignment to enter a state recipe contest for an easy, fun after school snack. Pizza Sticks were the result of our experiments and still one of my favorites today. We had a Make Your Own Pizza Party last night & gave the old recipe a run for its money :)
Thank you to Jallette, Jeremiah, J2, Penelope, Ellie, Lisa, and Dad for a a great Pizza Party! Here is some pics from our fun!
Fill Your Own Feed Bunk ~ HOMEMADE PIZZA Sticks
Party Guest List:
Just a few toppings that we use to fill our pizza feed bunks
Pizza Sauce ~
I usually just use a spaghetti sauce but you can get all fancy & buy a pizza sauce(or if you're super awesome...make your own...I'm not that awesome :)
Pizza Crust ~
I use a dough recipe that orginated from my Mom. However it has been dumbed down quite a but over the years (lol...she informed me the other day that there are numerous steps that I omited)
2 1/2 - 3 Cups of Flour (You can substitute whole wheat flower & still pretty scrumptcious)
1 pkg Dry Active Yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm water
2 Table Spoons Cooking Oil
Combine 1 1/4 cup flour, yeast, salt. Stir in water & oil.
Beat 3 minutes at high speed.
Stir in as much remaining flour as you can with a spoon.
Knead for 6-8 minutes.
(This is what I do: Combine Dry Ingredients. Add Water & Oil. Knead together with hands until it doesn't stick to your hands :) This dough works for a bread stick or better yet a cinnamon & sugar stick too! ....but that's another story :)
Another substitution you can use for crust is crescent rolls. They are about perfect personal pizza size
Make your Pizza Crust Feed Bunks:
Take about a golf ball size chunk of dough & roll it like a your making a play dough snake.
Next use both thumbs, side by side, to flatten out the bottom of your feed bunk. (You can use your rolling pin if you want. ) Take your pretty, flat dough and fold up your edges to have sides to keep all the gooey delicious toppings inside.
(You can make any shape but this what I like)
Cook the crust 10 or 12 minutes at 350 degrees. I like to cook them about half way before so that the toppings don't get to crispy & the dough is cooked all the way through.
TOPPINGS ~Since we had a wild feed crew...I sent up salad bar style with the toppings.
Topping Suggestions:
Canadian Bacon ( Deli Ham sliced up works too)
Pepperoni
Bacon
Hamburger
Sausage
Mushrooms
Pineapple
Olives
Almonds
Mozzarella Cheese
Cheddar Cheese
Pizza Sauce ( I use spaghetti sauce)
Barbeque Sauce
Lets fill those feeds bunks!
Here is my very favorite combo: Sauce, Hamburger, Mushrooms, PINEAPPLE, Cheese & Almond slices! Deliciousness...or atleast I love it! That is the beauty of these lil' pizzas...you can make whatever you like.
Thin layer of red sauce & ranch raised hamburger
Add a layer of sliced mushrooms & PINEAPPLE ( I love the pineapple)
Cheese Please!!
Top it off with some crunchy delicious almonds!
Bake for 8-12 minutes
(Will depend of the toppings you use. Cook until crust is golden & cheese is melted)
Ellie, Age 4, made her own pizza!
Toppings Choice: Tiny bit of sauce, Olives, PINEAPPLE, Bacon, & a lil' tiny bit of chesse.
Miss Ellie ate every single bite!
