Uncle Jim's Famous BEER Batter BREAD

Uncle Jim's FAMOUS BEER BATTER BREAD!
Friday Morning: "I'm in head over heels in love.....or atleast a severe case of infatuation......with the steam, hot, delicious piece of beer bread that just came out of my oven! Pretty sure the salty finger lickin' good butter is what won me over! Heavenly!

Thank you to Max Max for leavin a beer in the fridge!"
Saturday Morning " ol....I might have a problem....Just cracked open my 1st beer of the day! Making another loaf of beer bread this morning. Seemed like a fabulous way to start the day ....not to mention a sensible way to take the chill out of the kitchen ;)"
Now a little later Saturday morning...by popular demand.....drum roll.....rrrrrrrrrr......THE RECIPE for ....................

Partners in Crime this morning...

3 c. flour
1/3 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 room temp. 12 oz. beer
1/3 cup of Butter (used in Step 2.)
Mix 3 cups of Flour
(Yes, I own a beautiful mixer but seems I always grab for a mixing bowl anyway.
Geez, I bet the pioneer women where tough. I'm usually convinced it is mixed perfectly when my arm gets tired...lol...which isn't long)

Next 1/3 Cup of Sugar
&
4 tsps Baking Powder

I mix my dry ingredients together 1st but I don't think it matters

Before 8 am & we are bringing on the BEER!
Rebel without a cause ;)

Add Beer to dry mixture

Seriously....that is pretty fun :)
Mix Well.

Pour in a Bread Pan

Put it in a COLD OVEN
Turn Oven on to 325
Bake 40 minutes

Remove from oven after 40 minutes.
Pour 1/3 cup melted butter over the top.

Bake for 10 more minutes

HOT RIGHT OUT OF THE OVEN!

Most would probably wait for it to cool down
but I popped it right out of the pan & enjoyed a slice of pure deliciousness!

Enjoy every finger lickin bite!
Delicious!

Fabulous Partner in Crime!
Delicious alone & ever better with more accomplishes :)

Tried it with a slice of cheese this morning. So good!

Uncle Jim's FAMOUS BEER BATTER BREAD!

Ingredients Needed:

3 c. flour
1/3 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 room temp. 12 oz. beer
1/3 cup of Butter (used in Step 2.)

Put all dry ingredients in bowl.Pour in beer. Mix well. Put in COLD oven.
Heat to 325 for 40 mins. Remove. Pour 1/3 cup melted butter over top. Bake an additional 10 mins.

P.S. Can also add ingredients of your choice- cinnamon, chopped apples, bananas, etc. Just mix them in with the original ingredients.

p.p.s I made a few alterations after a few loaves:
  • If you live in a pink house or a house that room temp is not that warm....You can put the can of beer in a bowl of warm water to warm it up a little more
  • Sifted Flour really does make your bread lighter & fluffier
  • 1/4 a cup of butter works just fine.
  • I add 1/2 teaspoon of salt....cuz I like it that way :)

Loadin' Up

Do you ever have one of those moments when the whole world just slows down around you? ....You’re not sure if it has stopped for anyone else ....but everything around you is perfectly crisp and free of distraction. You are acutely aware of every sound around you. Often when loading the truck to come home from a rodeo....these are some of the images that flash through me & I wanted to attempt to share them in words.
There is a still in the air when we load out. Rodeo grounds once filled with trucks, trailers, contestants & fans....now only a barren parking lot and memories remain.
The silence that fills the air is broken only by the sounds of going home.
You can hear & feel each thundering broncs hoof striking the earth as they barrel down the alley to load on the truck.
Pound pound pound.....I struggle to describe the sound that their strong fierce hooves make as they eat up the ground below them. It is heavy & pounding but quick and agile all at the same time.
You can hear a change in the hoof beats the second they make their way from the dusty alley floor and up the wooden loading chute. It is almost a hollow echoing as they ascend to the semi.
Booming, a loud symphony of hoof beats rumble from the trailer. To the untrained ear it sounds like a ruckus of collision and ciaos as the horses feet hit the aluminum and shake the whole truck but it is nothing less than perfection as they single file march up the ramp and slide in to place!
Down the alley, standing alone, with the stock awaiting the next passengers to be called for. Listening to every latch the truck driver moves and foots step so that you almost know the Ready call… before the words leave their lips. The stock knows it too.
You can hear the rattle and clang of every latch and chain against the panels. Standing at the gate you can feel the excitement from every animal as their gate is called and the rush of energy as they hightail it for home.
Even a hot and tired set of baby calves are bucking and playing as they eagerly make their way to the trailer. Bellering with excitement as the last one slides into place.
Every last animal is loaded and ready for the trek home as the long door is pulled closed.
These are the sounds of Loadin' Up!

BABY BUCKAROO: western baby goods by Clarissa Vawter

Baby Buckaroo & Clarissa Vawter, meet the designer behind the brand

BABY BUCKAROO.....ever have problems finding cute WESTERN baby stuff?!?

Recently ,I had the pleasure of meeting a beautiful young lady who had this exact same problem. Armed with a needle & thread, and blessed with many talents, she set out to fill this need.

It is my honor to introduce you to Clarissa Vawter, owner and designer of Baby Buckaroo!

Ranch- raised in north east Colorado, Clarissa grew up on the Cervi Ranch ,where her father worked. She worked alongside her two older brothers, helping with the cow operation and rodeo company. You can hear the smile in her voice when she speaks about the ranch. She said, "Loved every minute of it! I used to tell mom and dad that I wasn't leaving home til I was 30!"

After high school ,Clarissa did leave home and set out on the trail ,living in Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, and Arizona , and doing various jobs from feedlots, ranches, waitressing and nursing homes. She was also a Rodeo timer and secretary in the Mountain States Pro Rodeo Circuit. This is where Clarissa would meet her husband Monte, a handsome young bareback rider.

Clarissa shared a trial they faced as a young couple early on in their marriage ,when Clarissa was diagnosed as being bipolar. “We had a rough start we found out I am bipolar. It was hard getting that controlled, but we are doing great with it. I love to share with people because it helped me to know others out there with it ,and that I wasn’t the only one”

Married life started a new string of adventures in her work life also. Moving and working a variety of fun new jobs from retail, vet tech, and the PRCA office. Clarissa was still always trying to find her niche.

The second year of marriage ,Clarissa’s life would change forever. They found out they were expecting a baby. All 9 months of sickness and pain were forgotten when baby Loretta came into their lives.

Meet Loretta, an everyday inspiration for BABY BUCKAROO!

A baby really changed their lives! Working hard with a baby is a given ,but being outside with a little one is hard to do. Needing more than cooking, cleaning and child care to keep her busy, Clarissa kept searching for her niche, a way to use her God given talents and creativity.

Clarissa’s Mom had always sewn and quilted when she was young ,but it had always been too slow and tendicious for her liking. Now with a beautiful baby of her own, Clarissa wanted to make a special blanket for Loretta. Surprisingly, it was easy and fun! Not only did baby Loretta love her new blanket but friends were raving about the beautiful creation! Soon the order requests were rolling in and BABY BUCKAROO was born!

Clarissa had finally found her niche! Baby Buckaroo got the creative juices flowing! Realizing how hard it is to find cute, unique and affordable western/cowboy baby goods, Clarissa set out to make fun, beautiful, durable,, and functional Baby Buckaroo products!

Clarissa says “I’ve found something that I really enjoy and totally fits into my lifestyle! I know how country kids are, how hard they are on stuff, and that blankies just don’t stay in the cribs. I’m making Baby Buckaroo tough and beautiful!

STOECKLEIN PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Stoecklein Photography Workshop! ~ Part One
"Every photo needs to tell a story"
David Stoecklein

I had the opportunity to attend a photo workshop with the AMAZING David R. Stoecklein! It was a great weekend! I learned so much!

What is a Stoecklein photography workshop?
A small class of students gets one on one time with world famous photographer, David Stoecklein! Back light, shooting manual, Lightroom3, and more! I knew nothing....so I had LOTS to learn! Team roping, Branding, Ranch Roping, and Running Horses were just a few of the scenes that we had the oppurtunity to shoot! It was AWESOME!

Classmates:
The students in the class were amazing! Larenda, a Red Angus rancher from Montana. Cassie, a race track accountant from Washington. Last but certainly not least, Darrell Dodds, veteran photographer and Western Horseman publisher!
What a great group of people! THANK YOU to everyone for all your help! Couldn't have been part of a better group of people! I was definitely the novice & they were all so helpful!

Models:
Thank You to all the amazing models! The Zollinger family, Mike Seal, John Spencer, Boedie Evans, Taylor Stoecklein, numerous shaggy dogs, and a lone fox! Handsome, handy and so photogenic! THANK YOU!

THANK YOU to David & the entire Stoecklein family! Not only do you learn photography, they are amazing hosts! Delicious home cooked meals and they make you feel right at home!

Here is a link to some of the delicious dishes we enjoyed throughout the weekend!

Here are a few my pics from the weekend.

Brett Zollinger Brand

Dave & I are standing in the same spot & he asks me if I got the shot. Scrolling through my camera....I see that I got it! I GOT IT! I GOT IT! .....and I proceeded to SCREAM that! (Those of you who have ever seen me get a strike bowling....you know exactly what I mean! :)
Dave is pretty sure that his hearing is damaged for life!

Ok, this was WILD! We had just finished up shooting the branding. Someone spots a fox just outside of the round pen. Dave says.....Go crawl out there & take some pictures Mindy.
OK! I army crawled out super close to this fox! It was crazy!
I was so close I had to zoom out!

At one point Dave asks how me settings were....I said I don't know.
What does it look like? I replied....It looks like I'm too close to a fox!

I would highly recommend these workshops for ANYONE! Here is a link to more info: Stoecklein Workshops http://stoeckleinphotography.com/workshops/
