Rodeo Fan in the Stands

Free Weekend in the Rodeo Schedule. What is the next best thing to bucking horses???

HOUSE GUESTS!!!! Such a lucky, lucky girl! The amazing Mr. Max Filippini made a lay-over at the house. It just so happened that the bronc rider van was headed to Great Falls, Montana on Wednesday and back in the same day so ….OBVIOUSLY, I hopped in! Who doesn’t love 9 hours in a van! : )

Gas Tanks in a small Montana town that we fueled up in....lol...made me laugh!

"Price is Double the Amount Shown"

Great Falls, Montana: quick trip with as many friends as possible! Bob Marriott, Dalton Ward, Shane Moran, Tyrell Smith, Shane Moran, Will Ramussen, Roberta and Ryan Sankey and many more Montana rodeo friends. The one and only Angel Grace Hucke brought her beautiful baby girl down to meet me! How awesome is that! So fun to catch up with one of my favorite college roommates! I even got to practice my videoing skills for Mr. Colin McTaggart and cute traveling partner….of whom I can never remember his name. SERIOUSLY….I was EVERYTHING a good spectator should be! (lol…except that part where I left during the timed events to eat fair food…which was fabulous!)

Hilarious drive home with the guys. Max & Ryan are fabulous traveling partners! Ended out the night rocking out to Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night” song! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU so much for letting me throw in with ya. Great road trip!!!

Thursday got even better, the guys helped out with some projects around the house. Later there was a house full of bronc riders and a home cooked meal around the kitchen table. It was so so so nice!

Everyone was heading out different directions on the rodeo trail. Thank you to Max Max for leaving beers in the fridge! You are the reason for the BEER BREAD experiment!

Here is a link to the BEER BREAD recipe in case you missed it earlier. Delicious!

http://rodeotalesgypsytrails.blogspot.com/2011/09/uncle-jims-famous-beer-batter-bread.html

Ryan was up in Idaho Falls so I hopped in, bucking horses only 30 minutes away, can’t hardly turn that down. This is where I started to question my sanity. The bull riders were up in Idaho Falls that night so I volunteered to video, yes, volunteered. Meeting up with my Aunt Nancy and Uncle Wade at the rodeo, any rodeo is like a family reunion. That’s fine but then it started to rain/drizzle …..MOST of the night…and I sat thru that! I go to lots of rodeos every year but I’m working. You are busy and don’t have time get cold or think about the ridiculousness of your actions. Had it not been for volunteering to video the bull riding…I probably would have left after the broncs. Bottom line…I’m not tough enough to be a spectator!

THANK YOU again to Ryan for letting me ride down with him. Thank You to Wade and Nancy for letting me sit with them and a fun night at the rodeo!

Friday: I have NO Intention of going to the rodeo! No intention…until I find out that one of the beautiful Hoggan raised bucking horse mares was going to be out tonight! Rodeo bound again, better prepared tonight with a ball cap and cute Lil’ Red Roan hoody. Not a single drop of rain! Seriously, it was a nice night and I’m dressed like a trucker. None of that mattered because that beautiful Hoggan mare BUCKED!!! THANKFUL for a great night at the rodeo! A special Thank You to Kenny and Vicky Jo Elison for letting me sit with them during the rodeo. Blessed < 3! Loved it when those mares buck to the best of their ability!

SATURDAY, SATURDAY, SATURDAY….(k, now that that song is in playing in your head)….You KNOW that I’m headed to the rodeo! This is day 4 of rodeo for me now. I’m cleaned up, hair, makeup, cute clothes…..Yes, It’s practically a fool proof disguise : ) I headed in early to the rodeo to visit with some friends.

THANK YOU! It was great to visit with Matt and Molly Twitchell and family, Kenny and Vicky Elison, and Sonny Hansen! Pickup Men camp was full of great friends and so so blessed to be able to catch up with all of them. I would later realize that Idaho Falls would be the last time I would see Mr Sonny Hansen. Thankful for the great example of kindness and ALWAYS smiling face. Our thoughts and prayer go out to the Hansen family. Sonny will always be remembered by all the lives that he touched.

Max Max is up in Idaho Falls and has a great horse drawn! He has been riding really good all summer and I am so excited to see these rodeo athletes matched up. Well, it doesn’t just rain this night. The clouds get darker and darker. Soon it is POURING rain, pouring! Nancy and I huttled in our rain coats on our seats in the grand stands to keep them from getting our bleacher blankets wet. Oh yes, we were that hard core! It pours and pours and pours some more! During parts of the rodeo it was more of a misting but it came down all night. Lol…the once well groomed hair…is rather wet frizzy poodle looking and the 1 st horse hasn’t even been bucked yet. When the going get tough….the tough get going and the hard core rodeo fans come out!

Before the rodeo even starts, there is courageous lady in the crowd that climbs the fence and makes the arena her stage! She’s dancing and cheering and just being awesome! (I thought it was awesome : ) Nancy just kept saying…That’s someone’s mother )

Well she had the right idea because by the bull riding….the entire stands were on their feet! Cheering, dancing, yelling, and shaking it like a poloriod picture……anything to stay warm. In fact the bull rides were almost out done by an adorable lil sheep rider had the moves like Jagger. He was the coolest thing since sliced bread! Thank you to Savannah and Nancy, surrounded by all my rowdy friends, soaking up all the fun RODEO has to offer! Congratulations to Idaho Falls for putting on a great rodeo! Great Stock, Top Notch Cowboys and that irreplaceable hometown crowd!

Thank you for traveling the gypsy trail with me!

You just never know the last time you will see someone's smiling face.

Smile at strangers. Hug your friends & family.

Let them know how much you appreciate them.

See the beauty in every second spent together.

STREET DANCES, STEAK SANDWICHES, FULL NIGHT of FUN!

Whitehall, Montana :

If ever there was a community that wanted to start their own rodeo….They could FOLLOW in Whitehall’s footsteps and be a huge success!

Why is Whitehall one of my favorite rodeos all year???

Answer: The ENTIRE community is involved, excited, and supports their Frontier Days celebration! You can feel the enthusiasm radiating from every person at every establishment you visit. Every coffee shop, hotel and gas station is bustling with talk of the upcoming events. Streets are filled with farmers markets and vendors. It is AMAZING!

On the road from Cheyenne, I rolled into Whitehall a few hours before rodeo time. Rodeo preparation underway, sorting, running cattle thru, ect. Well…in all that ect….I must have thought I was doing something that was very important and required a LOT of focus! There was a lil’ twister that touched down just blocks away from the rodeo grounds, ripped a roof off of a building and made a mess of main street! I had NO IDEA until the next day when some local vendors were talking about it. Lol…. Such focus : )

THANK YOU to JESS MARTIN for the opportunity to work with him & the entire MONIDA RODEO CO. crew! Thank you to my Dad & Jess for letting me flank, giving responsibilities and believing in me.

Great bucking horses, cowboys, Amazing rodeo fans, WORLD CLASS RODEO! Love the energy that pours out of the stands packed with excited rodeo fans! THANK YOU to the Whitehall Rodeo Committee and Congratulations on an AMAZING 2011 Frontier Days Rodeo!

After the rodeo the norm would be… feed the stock and call it a night. Well in Whitehall, Montana the rodeo was the main event but there was plenty of after party activities! STREET DANCES, BEST STEAK SANDWICHES in the WORLD, and a FULL NIGHT of FUN with FRIENDS….and my Dad.

THANK YOU AGAIN to Whitehall, Montana,

All the hard working sponsors, volunteers, Gina Ossello,

Jess Martin & the entire MONIDA RODEO CO. family!

BULLS EYE VIEW of the trip home :)

Cheyenne Frontier Days 2011

Cheyenne Frontier Days 2011

"Anytime a bronc rider invites you to Cheyenne at 1 in the morning….the answer is ALWAYS YES!!!!"

Some nice bronc riders asked if I wanted to throw in with them and go to Cheyenne. Well...I've never been to Cheyenne before so obviously I said Yes!

Packing for the trip to Cheyenne Frontier Days began with a call from Dad to come pull him home because his pickup had died along side the road. Looks like it’s off to the start of many grand stories in the next few days!

Let the Road Trip Begin!!!!

Entering Cheyenne!
You know the tunnel of love ain't my style
So I'm take her on the ferris wheel
Way up in the sky, with the stars in her eyes
I'm gonna tell her just how I feel

Wow....after a day in the vehicle...lol...You learn A LOT about your traveling partners.

It was quite the educational experience. Oh the stories!

lol...We ordered pizza from the hotel room. The super cute pizza delivery girl stayed for 20 minutes and bs'ed. Yes, the boys were that entertaining!

My 1st time at CHEYENNE FRONTIER DAYS!!!

I LOVE RODEO!!!! What an amazing show!

Here are a few of the sights that caught my fancy.

The Pick Up Men! ~ Seriously, who doesn't love the amazing Billy Ward family!

It's no secret, I'm a bucking horse girl but....at Cheyenne
.....the Steer Wrestling was my favorite!!! Oh my gosh it was awesome!
The barrier is set out super far and some of the steer even stopped to grab a bite to eat before they broke the barrier! It was slow motion the 1st day!

I even got to enjoy the best of both worlds! While I was there they ran a fresh steer and then the next day a "fast" steer (aka. steer that had been ran once already) It was AMAZING!!!

The 1st day they mosied out and the second day they were SMOKING down the arena at about 60 mph! By the time the steer wrestlers caught them they seemed like they were 1/2 mile down the arena!

The Steer Tie Down Roping was AMAZING also!

Some of the smoothest runs I've ever seen! I pretty much set on the edge of my seat the whole rodeo! Loved it!!

THANK YOU to my traveling partners:
Chris Klucas, JC DeSaveur, and Marty Holden

Not only did I get to see Cheyenne Frontier Days, so of my FAVORITE PEOPLE in the World were there! Like the AMAZING MAX FILIPPINI!

Drum roll.....my favorite picture of the trip of one of my favorites!
Love Max Max Filippini!

Mindy, Rita, and J2 Hoggan ALL met up in CHEYENNE, WYOMING!

J2 came in from Idaho, Rita came up from Colorado, and I was in Montana.

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT FUN with my bro & sis!

Buck Ryan & JC paid for lil J2 to ride the bucking machine.

Pretty much made his day!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Thank you to all my AMAZING FRIENDS that I got to party with at Cheyenne!

Thank You all so much for traveling the gypsy trail!

McCammon and St Anthony 2011Pioneer Days

McCammon ~

The next stop on the rodeo trail took me to McCammon, Idaho with Hoggan Rodeo. The bull fighter and I drove a load of roping steers down. Or I should say….He drove and I had my 1 st experience with an ipod! I my gosh, THEY ARE FABULOUS!!!! (Yes, I’m totatlly old school & just thrilled that my car plays cds : ) Not only did I get to dj the whole way to McCammon….I also learned that our bull fighter does not have horrible taste in music! It was pretty much the highlight of my day. When we pulled into the rodeo grounds to unload….I seriously considered just staying in the truck and listening to music : )

THANK YOU to the McCammon Rodeo Committee for choosing Hoggan Rodeo! . Also thank you to each and every RODEO FAN that came out to enjoy the rodeo! Thank you to all of our great rodeo sponsors who make the rodeo possible and all of the great contestants. A special THANK YOU to Trevor and Emily Fuhriman for a letting us stay. Hospitality at its finest and couldn’t ask for anyone better to work with! It was a great weekend spent with friends. THANK YOU!!!!

Check out Trevor & Emily and all their amazingness

http://fuhrimanranch.blogspot.com/

Also, Check out HOGGAN RODEO
http://www.hogganrodeo.com

After the rodeo Saturday the entire crew hustled to get everything loaded on the trucks for the haul home. The bull fighter and I loaded with steers again but this time we had the task of returning them to their owners in Blackfoot. I’ve been there once earlier this spring….and I missed the turn in the day light….lol. David gave words of encouragement….something like this…..It is REALLY REALLY DARK there because they don’t have a yard light.

Perfect : ) We load up and head down the road. Yes, I was dj again. These ipods really are so much fun! Bull fighter guy & did find the feedlot. When we went to unload….I completely understood what David was talking about. It was REALLY DARK!

Although it seems when your vision is hindered the other senses are heightened. Maybe they are always that sensitive, just never take the time to notice when can see. You feel the ground under your feet, incline or decline in the terrain. Standing in the silence, your eyes begin to adjust to the dim moonlight. The glimmer that comes off a full water trough. You notice the way the lights reflects off of the panel gates and different reflections from the wood plank fence. The alley is a tunnel of darkness but you can feel the slight vibrating in the ground just before the black steers appear in front of you to turn into their pen.

I love the Rodeo Lifestyle and all the little things that go along with it.

Thank you to Hoggan Rodeo and every member of the crew for being so wonderful to work with. Thank you to the bull fighter for being a great traveling partner…even if he did make me drive a lil’ that night

Livin’ the Dream!

Arco (this rodeo was in between McCammon & St. Anthony...see Brad Remer Memorial for post)

St Anthony: 2011 PIONEER DAY CELEBRATION

THANK YOU to St. Anthony’s Rodeo committee for the opportunity to be a part of their Pioneer Day celebration! What an amazing rodeo! St. Anthony is always one of my favorites because the entire community comes together to celebrate their pioneer heritage with good ol’ fashioned rodeo fun. The stands are packed. It is standing room only. Literally, when they have the calf scramble the arena FILLS with hundreds of children…the stands are still full….and you aren’t sure where they all came from. It is AMAZING! A few years ago St. Anthony took a big risk and became an independent rodeo. It has paid off big also. Amazing bucking horses, top notch cowboys, and the full crowd to compete in front of. The energy is 2 nd to none!

Thank you to the St. Anthony community, Sponsors, Angell Family and every who works so hard to make Pioneer Days possible. Also, Thank you to my awesome Aunt Nancy. I get the opportunity to work with her most of the summer and she rocks! Not only is she professional and a great timer; she’s also one of my best friends. Blessed to work with the best! THANK YOU!

Load'em in the Dark

Rexburg – Rodeo on the 5th of July
Obviously if you rodeo July 2, 3, 4….and there is a rodeo on the 5 th….You should drive half the night to go to it! After the final performance at Hailey came to a close, I loaded up the rig and headed for home. 4 th of July fireworks lit up the night sky on my late night drive.
Hoggan Rodeo had a perf on the 5 th and it was only about 30 minutes away so obviously….I had to go : )
It had been a long time since I’d been to the Rexburg Rodeo, back when Grandpa was alive I’m sure. Rexburg’s 4 th of July reminds me of my rodeo youth. Watching fireworks with Kristen Hill and crew…, saying Oooo and Awww. We could climb up on top of the semi to watch. From up there you felt like you were so close you could almost touch the stars. We Oooo’d & Awww’d with each explosion of light, flittering colors, loud boom, snap, crackle, and pop. ~ Always fun with the friends and extended “Rodeo family”. ~
Now that I’m older it is a little different. I’m not even sure if I saw fireworks. If I did, it was while running down an alley sorting bulls or feeding stock. I came home behind the Freightliner and helped get horses unloaded at a neighbors. Nothing like stumbling around in the dark of the night at strange corrals. ; )
Back down to Grandma’s to get things ready for the truck to arrive and doing chores.
Standing in the cool still dark midnight air, there is calm, quite, and tranquil feeling.
Nothing but the sound of baby calves eating their grain.
The yard light at the barn casts a soft light throughout the corrals.
In the distance you can hear a soft rumble as the semi gets closer to home
Faint shadows dance on the board fence of the loading chute.
Rodeo bulls, heads held high, returning home from competition victorious
Unloading is always one of my favorite times. The still and solitude of the moment. The whole world seems to slow down and it is just you and the stock as they parade by one at a time, headed back to the pasture after a successful rodeo weekend on the road.
Thankful for a great time on the rodeo trail.

Brad Remer Memorial Rodeo

Brad Remer Memorial Rodeo

Arco, Idaho

Thank you to the Arco Community, Rodeo Committee, and most of all my Aunt Crystal for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the 2011 Brad Remer Memorial Rodeo. Once the Atomic Days Rodeo, this was the first Brad Remer Memorial. Brad passed away just days before while on the rodeo trail doing what he loved.

Brad Remer was such an amazing man and I was privileged to know him. Just weeks before I’d done a photo shoot for the Arco committee and had the opportunity to work with some local stars, Brad and some of his beautiful grandkids included.

Here are a few shots from that day. I still regret not taking any pictures of Brad but I will always remember him in my heart.

Even at his Memorial service, I continued to learn from Brad. His amazing life was testified of by all of the friends and family that gathered together to honor his life. As Brad’s friends and family filed into the auditorium I saw something that I’d never seen before.

I realized the importance of companionship. As you see a couple walking down the isle, grief stricken and holding one another up. It is through the trials that you see the true strength with in.

Supporting through the grief, there through the good & bad….it was that moment that I understood the blessing that sharing your life with someone could offer.

Some of the most valuable lessons I learned from Brad were that he was ALWAYS helping others. I can’t even count the amount of times Brad went above and beyond to help us on a Senior Pro Rodeo run. Running cattle, gathering bulls, tying calves, Brad never shirked a task. Words could never do justice to the legacy that Brad left behind. All I can say is I am honored that I was blessed with his friendship.

Thank you for traveling the gypsy trail with me today.

Thank You all so much for visiting!

Dubois, ID

Clark County’s 55 th Annual RODEO:

Heading to the Rodeo!

The best way to describe this fine hometown festival is….LEGENDARY!!! Bucking Horses, (yes that is a reaccuring theme of a great summer for me), a paying job, family, friends....How does it get any great than that????

Add REAT MUSIC!!!! Kole Moulton and the Lonely Road were playing live after the rodeo!!! Well the clouds began to gather and soon rain was covering the sagebrush filled rodeo grounds ! (Yes, that is the best smell in the world!)

Well, we never let a little rain slow down a good ol’ Idaho party! BRING ON THE FUN! A night filled with DANCING in the RAIN, around the sagebrush , on the stage and just about everything else you can imagine!

The rest of this story will be left to your imagination and the rumors that you may or may not hear. LEGENDARY, LEGENDARY, LEGENDARY WEEKEND!

THANK YOU to the hard working Dubois Rodeo Committee, Sponsors,Community, EACH and every contestant, Everyone FAN who comes to support the rodeo, Hoggan Rodeo, Kelli Hurst, Annie Tuckett, Savannah McGarry, Jace Angus, and each an every person that made the weekend FABULOUS

Ms Annie & I dancing our lives away!

Aww, we are so much fun!
Thanks for a great night!

Hailey, Idaho:

Fabulous 4th of July! I love the fourth of July! Cowboy Christmas!

I had the privilege of working at one of the best 4th of July rodeos ever…Hailey, Idaho! This rodeo has long been one of my favorite events. It is different than any other rodeo we attend all year. However, this year was different than ever before! The re-birth of time honored tradition! We had the honor of being there July 2011 and the debut of the world class new facility!

We arrived the evening before the morning slack. The once wooden bleachers and gravel road were now replaced by towering grandstands of metal pipe, bleachers, panels, pens, and asphalt. (If you can’t tell….I was still mourning the past and the old grounds.

When the rodeo got rolling, I would learn a very valuable lesson. Beautiful green mountain sides, hard working committee, Amazing bucking horses, talented personnel and $4,000 ROARING fans! This kind of energy is unstoppable! No matter the sticks and stones or bolt and pipe that surround you…..LIVING THINGS brought together and unified in celebration that is where the magic begins!

A military unit played one of the most beautiful National Athem’s ever. From there on, we were rolling. Working our way through a full program of rodeo events and by the time we arrived at the barrel racing the stands were ROARING!!!

The last performance, the 4 th of July and NO bull rides in over 30 attempts. 4,000 screaming fans cheering, a rumbling echoing from the stands as they stomp in anticipation for the LAST chance to see man conquer beast. The young bull rider pulls his rope down tight on his head, nods his head and unleashes 1,800 lbs of sheer power! They explode out of the chute and the battle begins! Blow for blow, jerking force, and sheer brute strength! They are approaching the last round…..caught up in every split second….HE MAKES IT TO 8!!! The crowd goes WILD! The energy in that moment, thousands of people united in believing the impossible could be done and the sheer excitement from that!

The pictures don't do it justice & words can't can't even begin explain the energy.
Make your way over to Hailey, Idaho next year and come see for yourself :)
All the cool kids will be there!

Yes, that is a bucking chute full of talented young stock saddle bronc riders telling
Ashton Kutcher the inside scoop behind the scenes at a rodeo.

Thank You all so much for visiting!
